Message I am just asking something that I do not know about.

Why is it that all the chips have significantly different timing values? Wouldnt they make significantly different power with that much variation? (18 degrees Chip to 25 degrees on Devins).

I'm not sure what the others' ECU is scaled out to, which is important in determining whether or not the timing you see is comparable or not. I think the mappings you looked at are using the same scales though..

There are several explanations for what you are asking; each setup will have a different reason behind it and I cannot answer for everyone.

What I can say is that the timing values I am using are buffered; they are not the absolute maximum you can get away with. What I have found to be that maximum is around 22-23 degrees, definately not more, but you have to buffer your programming to account for variations between cars when you are making a blanket 'one size fits all' program. I run 22 degrees of timing on hot days in my car, and 23 on cooler days.. Sometimes bad gas has required me to drop as far as 16 degrees of timing to keep it from pinging.

If you run less than my program, I've found you are unnecessarily sacrificing power and raising EGTs at the same time. If you run more than my program, you sacrifice safety, but make more power. Ultimately I have empirically determined what is safe and what is not through the use of the ZEM in my car for the 30,000 some odd miles and two engine rebuilds I've put it through. I've broken parts so you dont have to.

People here will give you their whole-hearted opinion on what they think is right or wrong and mostly be based on their interpretations of things they've read over time and nothing from actual hands-on experience.

Also, Chip said his tune is for 91 octane and 17psi on stockers. Can you run more PSI on less timing? Or does he just run less timing for safety? I am curious again.

You can, but its not safe as EGTs rise sharply as boost increases and as timing retards. 17 is low so power will suffer and exhaust valves will get hot (which lead to valve guide and valve stem wear) and its simply excessively retarded.
